Mona Doctor-Pingel is an architect based in Auroville and the founder of Studio Naqshbandi, a practice dedicated to climate-responsive and sustainable design. A graduate of CEPT Ahmedabad with a master’s degree in Appropriate Technology from Germany’s Flensburg University, she has spent nearly three decades creating architecture rooted in nature, local materials, and human well-being. Her work integrates architecture, interiors, landscape, and sustainable building technologies while drawing from Auroville’s ecological philosophy. An author, researcher, and advocate for healthy built environments, she has contributed to international energy-efficiency initiatives and received numerous national and global design recognitions.
Keynote spotlight – Ayush Kasliwal
Ayush Kasliwal is one of India’s most influential furniture designers, celebrated for seamlessly blending contemporary design with traditional craftsmanship. A graduate of NID Ahmedabad, he founded AKFD with a vision to create meaningful, timeless products rooted in integrity, simplicity, and emotional sustainability. Guided by the philosophy, “Never more than necessary, never less than beautiful,” his work champions artisan-led innovation while preserving India’s rich craft heritage. Through AKFD and Anantaya, he has elevated Indian design on global platforms, earning prestigious recognitions including UNESCO–WCC Awards of Excellence, EDIDA, AD100, the Lexus Design Award, and numerous industry honours. His work continues to demonstrate how thoughtful design can connect culture, craftsmanship, and contemporary living.
