About Shonan Purie Trehan

Shonan Purie Trehan is the Founder and Principal Architect of Language.Architecture.Body. (L.A.B.), a multidisciplinary architecture practice based in Mumbai and Florence with a team of over forty architects and designers. Her work explores the relationship between narrative, environment, and habitation, resulting in architecture that is both purposeful and poetic. Shonan earned her Bachelor of Architecture from Rhode Island School of Design and completed her Master’s in Advanced Architectural Design at The Bartlett School of Architecture. Prior to establishing L.A.B., she worked with Eisenman Architects in New York City and Le Groupe Arcop in Montreal. Alongside her professional practice, Shonan has actively contributed to architectural education and discourse as a part-time faculty member at Kamla Raheja Vidyanidhi Institute for Architecture and Environmental Studies and as a mentor with the Sustainable Futures Program by JSW Group and ISDI School of Design and Innovation. She continues to engage with the design community as a critic, lecturer, and mentor. Under her leadership, L.A.B. has received several national and international recognitions, including AD100, AD50, EDIDA, and ID Honours, along with finalist selections at the World Architecture Festival in 2019 and 2022. The practice’s work has been widely published in leading design journals including Architectural Digest and Elle Decor UK, as well as books such as *20 x 20 Iconic Homes*. Today, through L.A.B., Shonan leads a practice driven by inventive design, rigorous execution, and a deep sensitivity to people and place, creating architecture that remains relevant, intelligent, and enduring.
